UN SDG Youth Summit Accra, Ghana

Last week we had the privilege of being part of Africa’s first Global SDG youth summit which was held in Accra, Ghana. Aside from AWAKE being the lead partner, Valavan and I had the opportunity to give a keynote presentation about what we do here at AWAKE. The audience took to it well and a large number of them came to our stall after to ask the team questions and find out how they can join us.

Later that day, Pumla also joined us for a panel discussion where we played some of our content to the audience and had an open question and answer session. The response to this was truly overwhelming as there were so many people who were intrigued by the concept of AWAKE as well as people who were raising their hands just to commend our work.

On the third and final day, the summit was dedicated to women. Pumla gave an inspiring keynote address about the importance of gender equality and what AWAKE will be doing to tackle certain issues. As well as this, I was able to sit and have a chat with the Vice President of Liberia about our work and our plans and she also really took to the concept, the video for this should be released on our social media soon.

Overall, it was a fruitful experience and we enjoyed being a part of the summit. We also loved being in the beautiful city of Accra and ate a lot of fried yam. We are all looking forward to going back there soon for whatever project comes up next.
